During severe weather conditions that could potentially impact the safety of students or employees, SBU will consider closing or moving to a delayed start schedule. The delayed start schedule will delay the start time for classes by 90 minutes according to the modified class schedule detailed below. The decision to close or to adopt the delayed start schedule will be made as early as possible. Announcements will be made via text through the SBU Alert system, on the website and the MySBU portal, through posts on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and with local radio and television stations.

The dining commons will maintain normal operating hours during the delayed start schedule. The Sports Café and Kaldi's Coffee Shop will open at 8 a.m. The Wellness Center will open at 8 a.m. and the library will open at 9:30 a.m.
All WinterFest classes will start 90 minutes later than the normal start time, and will meet for the full scheduled length of time. Evening classes (beginning at 5 p.m. or later) will start as scheduled. WinterFest students are encouraged to check their Blackboard course sites for additional instructions.
Evening classes will meet as scheduled unless otherwise announced.
University administrative offices will open at 9:30 a.m. when SBU is following the delayed start schedule. Personnel who normally report to work prior to 8 a.m. should report to work 90 minutes after their normal report time. Student workers should contact their supervisors concerning work schedules on such days.
Sidewalks between residence halls and the cafeteria will be cleared of snow first. Sidewalks leading to academic buildings will be cleared second. Please use caution when walking on campus in inclement weather.
