SBU Opera Workshop to present Fall Opera Scenes

The Southwest Baptist University Opera Workshop will present the Fall Opera Scenes at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Davis-Newport Theatre of the Jester Learning and Performance Center on the Bolivar campus.

Hall, Knudsen crowned Mr. and Miss Southwest

Parker Hall, an economics and finance and marketing major from Stockton, Mo., and Kailee Knudsen, an organizational and strategic communication major from Kearney, Mo., won the titles of Mr. and Miss Southwest at the annual pageant on Friday, March 1, at Southwest Baptist University.

Hopkins presents paper at ACMS Conference

Dr. Kevin Hopkins, chair of Southwest Baptist University's department of mathematics and professor of mathematics, recently presented a paper at the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, S.C.

Dedication for naming of SBU Nursing Training Center to be Aug. 30

The Southwest Baptist University Springfield Campus will host a dedication on Thursday, Aug. 30 for the naming of the Nurse Training Center at 1265 E. Lark St.

Tennison earns award for dissertation

Dr. Rachel Tennison, Bolivar Primary School assistant principal, received the Outstanding Research Award for Cognitive Coaching from Thinking Collaborative, an organization working to maximize individual and organizational thinking and professional collaboration. She successfully presented her dissertation December 2015 to earn her Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership from Southwest Baptist University.

Hornbostel participates in assault training and prevention course

Everett Hornbostel, assistant director of safety and security at Southwest Baptist University, participated in a program to become a SHARP (Sexual Harassment, Assault and Rape Prevention) instructor. Held March 7-9 at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., the program is designed to teach personal safety and sexual assault prevention.

SBU Opera Theatre to feature Gilbert and Sullivan on Nov. 11

Southwest Baptist University's Opera Theatre will present scenes from a variety of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, musical theatre and opera works at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Meyer Recital Hall of Casebolt Music Center on the Bolivar campus.

SBU awards 145 nursing and health science degrees

Nearly 150 students graduated from the Mercy College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Southwest Baptist University during a commencement ceremony Thursday, Dec. 17, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield.
