Master of Science in Education — Teaching Certification Program
Pursue your calling and be equipped to teach in elementary, middle or secondary schools with SBU's Master of Science in Education with Teaching Certification. You will be prepared to meet requirements for a Missouri teaching certificate, as well as concurrently complete the requirements for a Master of Science in Education degree, all in a setting with a foundational Christian perspective.
Who May Apply for this Degree?
Our Teaching Certification master's degree program is designed to enable top students from other areas of study to enter the teaching profession. If you have completed a bachelor's degree, you may apply to these graduate-level courses (those who have not completed a bachelor's degree may request special permission from the Director of Graduate Studies in Education). This program is ideal for those whose undergraduate study was related to the field(s) in which they plan to teach and who have an outstanding undergraduate record.
Criteria for admission into the Master's level Teaching Certification program are the same as all our Graduate Studies programs in Education. Among the criteria for admission to the Teacher Education program is the development of a complete student file in the Office of Teacher Education, passing scores on all sections of the C-BASE test, and EDU 2113 and EDU 2313 (or their equivalents).
What are the Degree Requirements?
This program results in both a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) degree and a Missouri teaching certificate. The degree is not granted until all certificate requirements are met, and the certificate is not processed until the degree requirements are met.
After an initial interview with the Certification Officer in Teacher Education at SBU, you will be assigned an advisor who provides guidance in admission to and completion of both the Master's in Education degree and teacher certification requirements.
Where and how is this degree offered?
