Chemistry Education Major

If you enjoy chemistry and science, and have a passion for teaching and working with youth, the chemistry education major is a great fit for you.

As a chemistry education student at SBU you will learn everything you need to know about how to become a chemistry teacher at the secondary education level. You also will have the option to pursue Unified Science Teaching certification to teach any beginning sciences courses. Endorsements also are available in biology and chemistry, which would certify you to teach advanced science courses.

Today's schools need teachers who are highly qualified in their academic disciplines and also care deeply about their students. At SBU you will receive a combination of training in both chemistry, education and the integration of faith and discipline, making you the type of teacher school districts are seeking.

The Chemistry Education degree is offered through SBU's College of Science and Mathematics.

Classroom field experiences start your sophomore year and culminate with a semester-long student teaching experience your senior year, providing valuable real-world experience and networking opportunities.

Faith Integration

As a chemistry education major, you will take a course from the Strait Center, Chemistry Through the Eyes of Faith, and will have the option to add a second major in Integration of Science and Christian Faith by taking the other Strait Center courses, including Methods of Biblical Interpretation, Philosophical Foundations for a Christian Worldview, and History and Philosophy of Science and Technology.
